These contrails scar the blue sky, a mix of hope and sadness for me. I moved alone to the UK, far from those I love. My sister lives across the ocean in the US, and my parents are even further apart. One of them is in a coma with an unclear future. Still, I see promise in those trails. They’re like highways in the sky, showing our desire to travel and find a better place, maybe even on Mars someday. They’re like my own journey, a move fueled by the hope of a better life, where love can survive even when we’re far apart. But those trails also remind me how fragile life is. They linger like unanswered wishes, showing the vast distances that keep us separate. Their fleeting beauty reflects the unknown path ahead, the mix of hope and sadness that comes with being an immigrant.
