My work The Goddess of Stoves is a live-action animation combining traditional Chinese cultural elements with a modern narrative. Set in a contemporary kitchen, the animation tells the story of Yun, a girl whose cooking skills are a mess, who gradually grows up with the help of the Goddess.
In the film, it looks like the goddess is working to help Yun cook, but in reality, the goddess is a figment of Yun’s imagination – it’s actually her journey of self-growth. Through the girl’s interactions with the goddess, the animation explores the power of folk beliefs and how imagination can breathe life into the mundane aspects of everyday life. As the girl tackles cooking challenges, she learns to believe in her abilities, embraces the infinite possibilities of her imagination, and ultimately discovers that the real magic lies within herself.
