Hello, my name is Carmen Fernández Peinado. I like to consider myself as a highly creative and innovative designer with a distinct personal style, seeking a position in women’s luxury fashion design. My design philosophy centers around conveying a strong feminist message by challenging traditional notions of femininity,breaking stereotypes, and incorporating “masculine” clothing and concepts into women’s fashion. I am equally committed to sustainable fashion, exploring fabric alternatives, and staying abreast of the latest industry trends.
My graduate collection is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, tracing her journey from girlhood to womanhood. She develops her personality with the help of new friends, reflecting her evolving characteristics. The designs incorporate details, shapes, and fabrics reminiscent of the story’s characters. Additionally, the collection considers the historical context of women’s clothing during Alice’s time (1820-1900). It addresses the trend of garments altering women’s proportions to avoid arousing desire. Women’s bodies have long been sexualized, imposing societal expectations on their attire throughout their lives. This collection aims to depict the clothing rebellious women of that era would have preferred. It combines elements from that historical period with attention-grabbing features on the chest, waist, and hip as a form of protest against imposed dressing norms during a young woman’s growth.
