Samantha Corbishley is a fashion and portrait photographer based in London and Kent. She takes a timeless approach within her photography with her styling of models. She is looking at females between the ages of 16 and 30, encompassing both younger and more mature women. Samantha’s intention is to examine both girlhood and womanhood, with the models comprising both experienced and emerging talents. This will involve a blend of her own styling and that of the model. It is her goal to showcase the model’s femininity and gender through her styling.
She enjoys mostly shooting on medium format colour film. Samantha has spent the last four years developing her skills with film photography creating vibrant colour outcomes. She is most inspired by female photographer’s Chloe Sheppard, Kate Bellm and Lea Colombo. These photographers have taken Samantha through her journey with fashion photography from college up until her university degree. Through her work with females, she would like to embrace her own femininity through the lens, employing her photographic skills and collaborating with the models in order to both better ourselves within the industry.
She is now currently studying at UCA Rochester on a BA Hons Fashion Photography course. She will be graduating 4th July 2023.
Over the summer break Samantha would like to photograph more test shoots for modelling agencies and freelance models to help each other build their portfolios. Samantha has been honing her portfolio with model testing, which has provided her the opportunity to create short-term relationships based on mutual trust. Through getting to know the models – their interests, hobbies, jobs, and educational background – she finds their individual stories quite interesting. Samantha’s aim is to make it known that these models are not simply subject matter but people. Furthermore, she desires to make the models’ experience a positive and secure one while seeking to impart an empowering, emotive quality in my images.
She would like to build her own team of creatives to use for photo shoots. She would also like to think about creating an individual project over the summer. Samantha would like to build her photographic CV by applying for internships, competitions and gallery’s. One goal Samantha has in particular to develop her photography skills further, is to learn how to colour darkroom print. Over the summer Samantha will sign up with Hulks Lane Darkroom in Rochester to carry on experimenting in the darkroom.
