Bo Bennett is a textile artist whose work explores material waste, overconsumption and overproduction due to the textile industry, and how this negatively effects and destroys the environment around us. Her practice is influenced by her own love for nature and want to protect it, as well as the constant overbearing stream of new media and ‘trends’ that arise which made us the uncaring and overindulging civilisation of today. Her work aims to change mindsets on waste, create a realisation that our environments are being ruined, and bring back traditional crafts.

Using second hand textiles and gathered elements of nature, she combines the two in the form of weaving and collage. She does this to not only show a physical representation of the environment which is being destroyed, but also how her work as an artist is trying to rebuild this ruin and protect it. Influenced by land art, Robert Smithsons ‘Site and Non-Site’ theory and ideas of artworks changing in different environments, Bennett is often seen taking her works back out into nature to where she gathered the raw materials from. We always need to give back to nature, and she gives it back with a new layer of protection and appreciation.
