Hekate Triformis is a triad of deities, who stand defiant and reverent, swathed in fabric, imposing at 3 meters tall.

As a trilogy, they represent Hekate the Goddess of Witchcraft and Magics, a Goddess who is often represented as the Mother, Maiden and Crone – a representation of all the women persecuted wrongly during the witch trials for simply being women.

On their own, they are Lamia, Medusa and the Harpy, ancient grecian women perceived as and transformed into monsters through the acts and words of others.

Made of timber, fabric and paint, these three deities represent the unapologetic nature and defiance of women, how no matter how your own body is used and turned against you –  transformed into something monstrous and unrecognisable – you can survive and embrace the monster, and transcend.

After being alienated and estranged from my own body and from femininity for so long, it was important for me to make works that conveyed how I felt about being a woman, these works were my therapy. By working on this it allowed me to find familiarity and home within my body after feeling dissociated from it for so long. I am grateful for Medusa, Lamia and the Harpy for allowing me to regain my bodily autonomy after I felt like it had been stolen.
