Hi!  I’m a retired vet. I’ve lived in Canterbury for about 20 years. I love this city. I took up art a few years ago for leisure, but now I’m taking it quite seriously. I love drawing but my main interest is sculpture because I find three dimensional work especially potent. Some of my inspirations come from animals (no surprise there) but I’m also interested in twisted shapes. I am quite taken with natural forms from bones, skulls, trees, wings, fungi and flowers. I have been influenced by many of the abstract sculptors of the last century or so including Jacob Epstein, Henri Gauder-Brzeska, Henri Moore, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keefe, and Magdelena Abakanowicz.  Some of my work has a clear meaning, such as a series of drawings I made of rhinoceros which I gradually erased as a warning of extinction and the wider threat to the biosphere.  However, most of my work is simply a exploration of form. I use many different media. I also enjoy stone balancing.
